Tangled Roots Wild Learning - Forest School Adventures

Inspiring Kids Through Nature Play

Discover the joy of outdoor learning with Tangled Roots. Our sessions spark curiosity, build confidence, and nurture meaningful connections with nature, ourselves, and each other. Children are free to explore through open‑ended play in a natural setting and can take part in hands‑on activities such as whittling, fire and cooking, bug hunting, den building, and more.

Nature-Based Learning for Every Child

From gardening to crafts, our forest school and outdoor learning programmes offer a rich mix of hands‑on activities that inspire creativity, build resilience, and a lifelong love of the natural world in children aged 4 to 12.

Decades of research show that regular time in nature, a strong sense of community and belonging, and a child‑led approach all play a powerful role in supporting long‑term mental and physical wellbeing. At Tangled Roots, we create the space for children to explore, imagine, take risks, and grow — naturally.

Hands-On Activities

Bug hunting, den building, crafts with optional use of tools, cooking and fire, gardening and more all foster creativity and confidence.

Our fully insured forest school lead is first‑aid trained and a certified outdoor children’s mental health practitioner, with many years of experience working with children both in schools and in natural outdoor settings, creating a safe, nurturing space where they can play, explore, and grow their love for the outdoors.

Ratios & supervision for Wild Parties

All birthday parties are led by a qualified Forest School Leader. To keep everyone safe, we follow simple, age‑appropriate supervision ratios.

Who provides the adults?

I am the only paid member of staff at parties. Parents must provide additional adults to help meet the required ratios.

Required Ratios

1 adult : 6 children for general woodland play and activities

1 adult : 4 children for tool use, fire lighting, or campfire cooking

These ratios include me plus the adults you bring.

Parent Helper Role

Parent helpers support children during activities, supervise free play, and help maintain safety around tools and the campfire. No Forest School experience needed — just a willingness to get involved.
